Greater Thumb - West recap Oct. 3, 2012
Nathan Greaves of Vassar ran for the longest rushing play in Greater Thumb - West this season against Marlette last week. Greaves ran for 46 yards on the play and finished with 83 on the day as his team beat the Red Raiders.
Vassar moved up to 250 from 334 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 55-12 win over Marlette helped Jason Kiss's team improve its standing.
All Saints Central's dynamic duo of William Daniels and Nick Hunter proved tough for Laker to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Daniels threw for 77 yards and 36 touchdowns and Hunter had 61 yards receiving. Curtis Leaman helped All Saints Central's passing attack out by catching one ball for 16 yards.
Rey Martinez was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 97 yards on 11 carries as the Vulcans lost to the Lakers. Teammate Michael Pratt added to the ground attack by rushing for 93 yards.
Vassar's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Vulcans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Tanner MacKay has thrown for 426 yards and seven touchdowns this season, while Greaves has 11 catches for 351 yards. Greaves leads the league in rushing with 599 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Vassar takes on Unionville-Sebewaing. As it stands, the Vulcans are in second, while the Patriots are in third.
Reese extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Cass City, 48-0. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Rockets.
