North Newton has gone a perfect 6-0 against Tri-County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Spartans will look to defend their home field against the Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
North Newton's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Monday's struggle, when Washington Township hitters got past them. The Spartans came up short against the Senators on Monday, falling 20-10. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Rylynn Klemz made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of June Busboom, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Tri-County had already won 14 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it 15 on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Chargin' Chargers. Considering the Cavaliers have won 12 contests by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Grace Luck made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Tri-County got a massive performance out of Sara Zarse, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI. Those two triples gave Zarse a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bella Dominguez, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Tri-County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive matches.
Tri-County pushed their record up to 16-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for North Newton, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-3-1.
North Newton skirted past Tri-County 3-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cavaliers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
