The Thornton Wildcats entered their tilt with the Rich Township Raptors with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Thornton walked away with a 54-43 victory over Rich Township on Thursday. Given Thornton's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while Rich Township is ranked 52nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Thornton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Morez Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 rebounds. Johnson is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Green, who scored 18 points along with five assists.
Thornton pushed their record up to 20-2 with that victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.7 points per game. As for Rich Township, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-7 record this season.
Thornton's road trip will continue as they head out to face Homewood-Flossmoor at 7:30 p.m. on January 28th. As for Rich Township, they will take on Manley at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
