The White Oak Vikings's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They fell just short of West Carteret by a score of 55-52. White Oak has not had much luck with West Carteret recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why White Oak lost, one person who can't be blamed is Denniyah Tanner. Despite the final result, she scored 25 points along with five assists and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Tanner has scored all season. Kylie Stephens was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, White Oak were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Skyler Setzer went supernova for West Carteret, scoring 24 points along with nine steals. Setzer continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Huber, who scored eight points along with seven steals and five rebounds.
White Oak bumped their record down to 1-8 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for West Carteret, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
White Oak will be playing in front of their home fans against Jacksonville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Jacksonville's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games. West Carteret's road trip will continue as they head out to face Swansboro at 6:15 p.m. on January 19th.
