The Milledgeville Missiles will head out on the road to face off against the Dakota Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Milledgeville has now lost 16 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 6.
Last Friday, Milledgeville had to suffer through a rough 58-13 loss at the hands of Amboy.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 57-18, which was the final score in Dakota's tilt against Aquin Catholic on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Dakota can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 454th, while Aquin Catholic is ranked 125th).
Dakota's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Bella Keyes, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and two steals, and Hailey Kerchner who scored four points.
Milledgeville dropped their record down to 1-20 with that defeat, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.5 points per game. As for Dakota, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-18 record this season.
Milledgeville might still be hurting after the 39-15 defeat they got from Dakota in their previous meeting back in December of 2021. Can Milledgeville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
