The Cristo Rey Cougar will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Patriot Prep Academy Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on January 25th. Cristo Rey comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last seven games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Last Tuesday, Cristo Rey had to suffer through a rough 56-6 loss at the hands of Wellington School. While losing is never fun, Cristo Rey can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 800th, while Wellington School is ranked 304th).
Meanwhile, Patriot Prep Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Tuesday after their third straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 45-21 walloping at the hands of Grove City Christian. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Patriot Prep Academy has suffered since December 11, 2023.
Cristo Rey dropped their record down to 0-7 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 9.9 points per game. As for Patriot Prep Academy, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
Cristo Rey ended up a good deal behind Patriot Prep Academy in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, losing 42-24. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Patriot Prep Academy's Faith Thomas, who scored 26 points. Now that Cristo Rey knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
