After soaring to 63 points the game before, the New Underwood Tigers were a bit more limited in their matchup on Thursday. They took a serious blow against Hill City, falling 54-25. New Underwood lost against Hill City in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 73-44 score last time.
Defeat or not, New Underwood got some senior leadership from Xander Jones who scored 11 points and Eli Kelley who scored six points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jones has scored all season.
New Underwood's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-1. As for Hill City, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Underwood will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Lead-Deadwood at 3:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Dakota (Lead-Deadwood is ranked 50th, while New Underwood is ranked 58th). Hill City will be home for the holidays to greet Hot Springs at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
