Merit Preparatory Academy has struggled against American Prep WV recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Merit Preparatory Academy saw an underclassman step up: Miles Petersen scored 13 points along with eight rebounds. That was a full 40.6% of Merit Preparatory Academy's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Alex Bills was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Peter Hakim was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with nine rebounds and eight assists for American Prep WV. That's the first time this season that Hakim pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Komy Ocwor, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Merit Preparatory Academy bumped their record down to 3-9 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for American Prep WV, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-5.
Merit Preparatory Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Milford at 6:30 p.m. on January 10th. Hopefully Milford focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten last Thursday. As for American Prep WV, they will head out on the road to challenge Rowland Hall at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rowland Hall has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 21.
