Rowan County is a perfect 5-0 against Breathitt County since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Vikings will look to defend their home field against the Bobcats at 6:30 p.m.
Rowan County fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Wolfe County on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wolves by a score of 2-1. The Vikings' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Jayson Ingles spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits.
On the hitting side, Rowan County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abram Norden, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Breathitt County never let their opponents score on Thursday. They blew past Lee County 11-0. Breathitt County hasn't had any issues with Lee County recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Blake Hudson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Breathitt County is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-9 otherwise. Hudson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Jake Fugate looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Breathitt County: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 7-8 otherwise.
Back at the plate, Miles Hollon was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Breathitt County is undefeated when Hollon posts two or more runs, but 7-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Sebastian Howard, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Breathitt County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .520. The last time their OBP was this high was April 2nd.
Rowan County's loss dropped their record down to 16-8. As for Breathitt County, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Everything went Rowan County's way against Breathitt County when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Rowan County made off with a 10-1 victory. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Bobcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
