West Jersey - Diamond recap November 5, 2013
Woodstown extended the longest winning streak in West Jersey - Diamond this week by beating Gloucester City, 21-14. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
Highland Regional lost to Delsea 42-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Derin Sweeney threw for 93 yards in the defeat.
Schalick's dynamic duo of John Gallo and Melvin Allen proved tough for Salem to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Gallo threw for 86 yards and 2 touchdowns and Allen had 76 yards receiving. Gerald Gilchrist helped Schalick's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 10 yards.
Jared Carney was a passing and rushing force as Woodstown bested the Lions. He completed 6 passes for 110 yards and also ran for 96 yards. Carney's key target this week was Ta'riq Thomas, who caught 2 passes for 52 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Highland Regional's Sweeney and Jamil Jackson have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-11 quarterback Sweeney has thrown for 964 yards this season, while Jackson has 15 catches for 317 yards. Tyrell Hart from the Cougars leads the league in rushing with 820 yards.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when Craig Stinson's team and Penns Grove face off next week.
An important game coming up in West Jersey - Diamond this week will be when Schalick takes on John Adams' team. At the moment, Seth Brown's team is in third, while the Wolverines are in first.
Glassboro led the league in scoring this week after putting up 34 points on Glassboro.
