The Silver Creek Raptors will be playing at home against the Longmont Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
A well-balanced attack led Silver Creek over Greeley Central in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Silver Creek blew past Greeley Central 61-39. Given Silver Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while Greeley Central is ranked 162nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Silver Creek got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Gabe Selby out in front who scored 16 points along with two steals. Selby has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. Luke Schmeeckle was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Longmont waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They put the hurt on Greeley West with a sharp 57-35 victory. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up eight more assists than your opponent, as Longmont did.
Cole Corner went supernova for Longmont, scoring 19 points along with five rebounds. Corner is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Gaddis, who scored two points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Silver Creek's victory bumped their record up to 17-4. As for Longmont, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Silver Creek have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Longmont struggles in that department as they've been averaging 21.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Silver Creek was able to grind out a solid win over Longmont when the teams last played back in January, winning 52-44. Does Silver Creek have another victory up their sleeve, or will Longmont turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
