The Marlington Dukes will take on the Manchester Panthers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Marlington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
Marlington was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Ravenna on Thursday. The Dukes blew past the Ravens 24-0. The Dukes' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Justine Doringo made a big impact no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Doringo was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chelsea Miller, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Another player making a difference was Payton Peterson, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Marlington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .559. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March.
Meanwhile, Manchester entered their tilt with Louisville on Monday with 11 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 12. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Leopards.
Payton Klockenga spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits.
At the plate, Chloe White was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Saige Rankin, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Marlington's record is now 17-6. As for Manchester, their record now sits at 18-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Marlington hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.2 home runs per game. However, it's not like Manchester struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.3 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
