Basketball Recap: Loxly Johnson Key Part of a Team Effort in Islanders Win

After losing to Madison the last time they met, Coronado decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Coronado Islanders came out on top against the Madison Warhawks by a score of 65-57 on Tuesday. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Islanders' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 581st, while the Warhawks are ranked 215th).

Coronado's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Loxly Johnson, who posted 18 points along with six assists and six rebounds. Johnson's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Ah'Mahn Oliver was another key player, putting up 18 points.

Madison's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adein Lea?E, who went 6 of 8 en route to 15 points and seven boards. Those 15 points gave Lea?E a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Eli Stevens, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 11 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.

Coronado pushed their record up to 11-14 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Madison, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 17-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coronado will square off against Mira Mesa at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Coronado's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games. As for Madison, they will face off against Canyon Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Madison is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.4 points per game this season.
