Powell is 1-9 against Halls since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Panthers will look to defend their home field against the Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Halls will be up against a hot Powell team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. The Panthers never let Campbell County get on the board and left with a 20-0 win on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Panthers considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Langston Coggins made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Coggins was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Powell got a massive performance out of Emersyn Mayes, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that Mayes has launched this season. Gabby Kraatz was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Powell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2025.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Halls). They put the hurt on Knoxville Central with a sharp 15-0 victory on Tuesday. With that win, the Red Devils brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Alle Wilson looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Isabella Wires and Harper Bales did most of the damage at the plate: Wires went 1-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Bales went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those five RBI gave Wires a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie Baker, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Powell's victory bumped their record up to 14-4. As for Halls, their win bumped their record up to 13-3.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Powell hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .386. However, it's not like Halls struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Powell couldn't quite get it done against Halls in their previous matchup two weeks ago as they fell 5-1. Will the Panthers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
