The Lathrop Spartans pushed their score all the way to 61 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Johansen by a score of 64-61. Lathrop has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Raymond Carson, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds. Carson continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Reniel Crisostomo was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with two steals.
Johansen's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Wilbert Gaxiola, who scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Ivan Martinez, who scored 12 points.
Lathrop's defeat dropped their record down to 8-16. As for Johansen, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-14.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lathrop won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Bear Creek at 10:00 a.m. on February 3rd. Bear Creek knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Lathrop likes a good challenge. As for Johansen, they will head out on the road to square off against Beyer at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Johansen is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 51.5 points per game this season.
