It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Essex had no problem doing just that on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Middlesex Chargers as they made off with an 11-1 win. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by seven runs or more this season.
Kyran Howard was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Hunter Byrd, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Essex kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.
Essex has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Middlesex, their loss dropped their record down to 11-9.
As of now, neither Essex nor the Chargers have any future games scheduled.
