It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Rampart Rams had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They blew past Grand Junction Central 48-6 on the road. Considering Rampart has won five matchups by more than 35 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
It was another big night for Maciu Ramaqa, who rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also picked up 42 receiving yards. Ramaqa was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 67 yards. Another player making a difference was Khalid Elwazier, who rushed for 67 yards and two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Grand Junction Central to a paltry 236 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Rampart's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out four times before it was all said and done. In that department, Peter Richardson was the leader with two sacks.
The victory (which was Rampart's third in a row) raised their record to 7-5. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 32.67 points. As for Grand Junction Central, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
Rampart will head out on the road to face off against Erie at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Erie knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six games -- so hopefully Rampart likes a good challenge. Grand Junction Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
