The Chula Vista Spartans and the Mount Miguel Matadors squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Chula Vista Spartans had to settle for second. They were the victim of a tough 35-14 defeat at the hands of the Matadors. Chula Vista's defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.
When it comes to explaining why Chula Vista lost, one person who can't be blamed is La'Darrione Perkins. Despite the final result, he rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries.
Mount Miguel's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Barton, who threw for 214 yards and five touchdowns. Jeremiah Castillo also deserves a shout-out for his three touchdowns.
Chula Vista's loss dropped their record down to 10-3. As for Mount Miguel, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 12-1.
Chula Vista does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Mount Miguel is on the road again on December 2nd and play against Mayfair at 6:00 p.m. on December 2nd. Mayfair knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Mount Miguel likes a good challenge.
