The Fruita Monument Wildcats put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 62-49 victory over Grand Junction Central. Given Fruita Monument's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Warriors are ranked 122nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Fruita Monument to victory were Max Orchard and Daniel Thomason. Orchard scored 23 points along with seven rebounds and five assists, while Thomason dropped a double-double on 22 points and 17 rebounds. Thomason has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jhett Wells, who scored ten points.
Fruita Monument's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-0. As for Grand Junction Central, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fruita Monument will take on the Red Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Montrose focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday. Grand Junction Central is on the road again on Friday and plays the Demons at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Durango is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
