The St. Mary's Knights can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Marcos de Niza 64-19 on the road. The victory was just what St. Mary's needed coming off of a 64-42 defeat in their prior match.
St. Mary's found their leader in underclassman Alondra Reyes, who scored 23 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Reyes has scored at least a third of St. Mary's points. Another player making a difference was Ava Sierras, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Despite the defeat, Marcos de Niza had strong showings from Audrey Underwood, who scored two points along with six rebounds and six blocks, and Leila Rodriguez, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and five steals. Rodriguez hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games.
St. Mary's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-10. As for Marcos de Niza, their loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-19.
St. Mary's will take on Apollo at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Apollo is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for Marcos de Niza, they will head out on the road to challenge Seton Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Seton Catholic's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games.
