Division 1 Lacrosse
Duxbury’s impressive streak of state domination continued last week by winning its fifth-straight Division 1 championship and claiming its 90th consecutive victory over MIAA competition with a dramatic, 14-13, overtime win over Billerica at Harvard University in Cambridge.
Gus Quinzani broke the deadlock with the game-winning score just 56 seconds into the extra session.
Billerica (17-5), led by Grant Whiteway with four goals and one assist and Greg Melaugh with two goals and three assists, stayed ahead of the Dragons most of the night. But in the fourth quarter, Duxbury (22-2) came back to take a 13-12 lead on a Derek Sweet goal with 38 seconds remaining. Just 17 seconds later Jeff Scarfo forced the game into overtime with the last score in regulation.
Division 2 Lacrosse
Longmeadow captured its 17th boys lacrosse state title and first since 1997 with a 14-10, come-from-behind victory over defending state champion Medfield.
The Lancers trailed 7-4 in the second quarter before taking control the rest of the way, keyed by four goals from Kyle Smith, two goals and four assists by James Reardon and two more scores each by David Thor and Richard Tavers. Lancers goalie Richard Al-Husseini made 19 saves.
Jack McDermott and Matt Bletzer led Medfield (21-2) with three goals apiece.
Division 3 Lacrosse
Scituate defeated two-time defending champion Cohasset, 17-5, behind seven goals from Greg Reynolds, three each by George Russo and Alex Ferris and two by Pat Mahoney.
Goalie Jake Gray made 17 saves as the Sailors' defense limited the Skippers to just two goals in the second half after leading at intermission, 8-3.
It was the first state title for the Sailors (16-6) who lost last year to Cohasset, 15-14, in the finals. Cohasset also finished the season at 16-6.
Baseball
MIAA Division 1, 2 and 3 champions were crowned June 14 at Lelacheur Park in Lowell.
Division 2
In an ironic twist of fate, history repeated itself as Plymouth North finished as the state's only undefeated team (26-0), edging Auburn, 1-0.
Tom MacInnes singled in teammate Jared Canney, who had doubled, in the10th inning.
Joe Flynn, who won nearly half his team’s games on the mound en route to posting a 12-0 record, went the entire distance, giving up four hits and struck out eight batters.
Jeff Croteau also pitched a sparkling game for Auburn (18-7), scattering seven hits.
The Blue Eagles became the first undefeated team since the 1998 Auburn squad won the state title. The Blue Eagles showed resiliency throughout the season, winning 14 games by three runs or less.
Division 1
Boston College High defeated Westfield, 7-1, to capture the Division 1 title, riding the arm of Scott Warwick who scattered nine hits and went the distance in striking out three batters. Tyler Horan had two hits and an RBI while Mitch McClune added a two-run single for the Eagles, who also capitalized on five Westfield errors.
For the Eagles (22-4 ), it was their first state title since 2001
Brian Moran had three hits for Westfield (20-5) which scored its only run on a Nick Gezotis double in the seventh inning.
Division 3
Underdog Westwood completed a whirlwind drive through the playoffs, slugging its way to its first state championship in 45 years, 12-6, over Frontier.
Sean Grandfield and Jason Sementelli both went 3-for-4 while pitcher John Sheehan limited the Red Hawks to just six hits while striking out 10.
The Wolverines, who finished at 17-8, started out as a No. 14 seed in the South Sectionals.

* Keith Landers of St.-Peter Marian topped the list of 12 current or former Massachusetts high school players chosen in the 2008 MLB Draft last week. Landers, an 18th round pick by Baltimore, was joined by;
