Spoto never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Freedom on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 16-5 victory. Considering the Spartans have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Lena Murphy was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Murphy was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Keira Mitchell was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Chanel Williams was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Tampa Bay Tech's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Spoto, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.
Spoto's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Tampa Bay Tech has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Spoto, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given Tampa Bay Tech's sizable advantage in that area, the Spartans will need to find a way to close that gap.
Tampa Bay Tech couldn't quite finish off Spoto when the teams last played back in March of 2024 and fell 14-12. Can the Titans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
