Considering the Spartans have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Lena Murphy was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Murphy was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Keira Mitchell was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Chanel Williams was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Tampa Bay Tech's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Spoto, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.
Spoto's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Tampa Bay Tech has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Spoto, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given Tampa Bay Tech's sizable advantage in that area, the Spartans will need to find a way to close that gap.
Tampa Bay Tech couldn't quite finish off Spoto when the teams last played back in March of 2024 and fell 14-12. Can the Titans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
