Basketball Recap: Calvary Christian Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Samantha Lecas and Alexis Brown

Calvary Christian Academy suffered their biggest loss since February 14th on Friday. They lost 64-38 to the Durant Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 250th, while the Cougars are ranked 119th).

Calvary Christian Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Alexis Brown, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 boards, and Samantha Lecas, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 15 points and three steals. Brown is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Lenz, who posted six points and six rebounds.

Durant's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Icyss Lopez, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 12 points and four steals. Mikaiah Hallback was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Calvary Christian Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season. As for Durant, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.

Calvary Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Boca Raton at 3:35 p.m. on Saturday. As for Durant, they will also get right back to it: they'll take on Sycamore at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
