The Sargent Farmers put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Sangre de Cristo 56-26 at home. That 56-26 margin sets a new team best for Sargent this season.
Sargent was led to victory by Fernando Venzor and Hayden Lester. Venzor scored 12 points along with three steals, while Lester scored 13 points along with six rebounds. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for Venzor. Corbyn Wright was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Sangre de Cristo saw an underclassman step up: Kolby Shellabarger scored eight points along with seven steals and six rebounds. Those seven steals set a new season-high mark for Shellabarger.
Sargent's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Sangre de Cristo, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.
Sargent will be home for the holidays to greet Ignacio at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sangre de Cristo will take on Soroco in a holiday battle at 5:30 p.m. on Friday at. Soroco is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
