Cleveland extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to ten on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-8. They came up short against the Walker Valley Mustangs, falling 15-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 back in March.
Cleveland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lily Mason, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that Mason has hit this season.
As for Walker Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games.
On Walker Valley's side, Anzleigh Battle made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Battle was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 15 games.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abigail Lipps, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Rice, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI and one triple.
Cleveland didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-1 defeat against Signal Mountain on the 13th. As for Walker Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 0-0 tie against McEwen on the 10th.
