Even though the West Washington Senators have not done well against the Eastern Musketeers recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. West Washington managed a 42-38 win over Eastern. Given West Washington's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while Eastern is ranked 326th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
West Washington's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayla Batt, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds and five steals. Batt set a new season high mark in steals with five. The team also got some help courtesy of Meredith Deaton, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
West Washington's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2. As for Eastern, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Washington is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Orleans at 6:00 p.m. on December 12th. Hopefully Orleans focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Saturday. Eastern will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Southwestern at 12:00 p.m. on December 21st.
