Maize South took care of business in their home opener on Friday (and then some). They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 56-20 win over the Newton Railroaders. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-6.
Tate McNew went supernova for Maize South, throwing for 332 yards and six touchdowns while completing 81% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Gatto, who picked up 151 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Maize South wouldn't let Newton keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. Maize South can thank Johnny Hartig and Nick Paulus for forcing all of them.
Maize South is headed away from home for the first time to face off against South on Friday. As for Newton, they will host Andover Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Newton will come in still looking for their first win of the season.
