Cenzo Gonder looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Fairfax HomeSchool's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 2-1 (and 5-7 when he doesn't).
At the plate, Fairfax HomeSchool's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Alberts, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Another was Silas Yoho, who scored a run while going 1-for-5.
Meanwhile, Blue Ridge got themselves on the board against Front Royal HomeSchool on Friday, but Front Royal HomeSchool never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Flames with a sharp 13-0 win. Considering the Jays have won four contests by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Lochlan 'Bear' Paul made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, Dominic Paul was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Alex Showalter was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
Blue Ridge pushed their record up to 6-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Fairfax HomeSchool, their victory bumped their record up to 7-8.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Fairfax HomeSchool has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .463. However, it's not like Blue Ridge struggles in that department as they've averaged .519. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fairfax HomeSchool took their win against Blue Ridge in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 11-2 score. Do the Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Jays turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
