Brimfield is a perfect 5-0 against Delavan since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Indians will welcome the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Brimfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Brimfield earned a 7-2 victory over ROWVA/Williamsfield.
Schyer Meinders spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Reese Legaspi and Sawyer Drury did most of the damage at the plate: Legaspi scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Drury scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Delavan). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Hartsburg-Emden a 16-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Panthers not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 6, 2024.
Lainey Klokkenga was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Delavan let Kara Lowry and Addi Fisher run wild. Lowry scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2, while Fisher scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs Fisher has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Nola Houston, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Delavan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive matchups.
Brimfield is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Delavan, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Brimfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Delavan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Brimfield took their win against Delavan in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 16-1 score. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
