Basketball Game Preview: Summertown Eagles vs. Loretto Mustangs

Summertown is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Loretto is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Summertown Eagles will host the Loretto Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Summertown is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Mt. Pleasant: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Summertown blew Mt. Pleasant out of the water with an 80-14 final score. With the Eagles ahead 47-4 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Gabi Long was the offensive standout of the matchup as she posted 18 points. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Busby, who scored 13 points.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Loretto over Battle Creek in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Loretto blew Battle Creek out of the water with a 78-14 final score. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while the Grizzlies are ranked 389th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Loretto is also on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.2 points per game. As for Summertown, their victory bumped their record up to 16-1.

Summertown came up short against Loretto in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 44-40.
