The Vista Ridge Wolves will challenge the Palmer Ridge Bears at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Vista Ridge not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 13, 2024. They were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over Crescent Valley. The Wolves' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Ricky Flugel tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Vista Ridge got a big performance out of Edwin Gutierrez, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. Xy'Aire Borello was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Palmer Ridge can bid farewell to their seven-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They blew past Coronado 18-3. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Bears' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Luke Weaver made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Weaver was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He also put up a triple, which was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Luke Vandenbussche was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Another player making a difference was Jameson Wheeler, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Palmer Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Vista Ridge's record is now 3-4. As for Palmer Ridge, their record now sits at 2-8.
