Leyton Guhl was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. He has become a key player for Carmel Christian: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Tarr, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Charlotte Catholic came tearing into Tuesday's game with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Eagles as they made off with a 13-6 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by six runs or more this season.
Will O'Rourke looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Matt McKnight was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cooper Gornet, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Charlotte Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .533. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.
Carmel Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Charlotte Catholic, they pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Carmel Christian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .440. However, it's not like Charlotte Catholic struggles in that department as they've averaged .503. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Carmel Christian came up short against Charlotte Catholic in their previous meeting back in April of 2022, falling 6-3. Can Carmel Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
