St. Edward is 0-9 against Burwell since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The St. Edward Beavers' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Burwell Longhorns at 6:00 p.m. on December 15th. St. Edward comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 18 points in their last six games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Last Tuesday, St. Edward came up short against Winside and fell 30-17. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for St. Edward in their matchups with Winside: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, St. Edward got a solid performance out of Skyelar Sindelar, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Sindelar pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Meanwhile, Burwell suffered a tough 38-18 loss at the hands of West Holt on Saturday.
Burwell's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Gracyn Hicks, who scored four points along with six rebounds, and Brookelyn Gideon who scored no points. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for her.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Burwell struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
St. Edward's loss was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-6. As for Burwell, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: St. Edward have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 18.5 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Burwell, though, as they've been averaging only 29.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
St. Edward took a serious blow against Burwell when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 64-13. Thankfully for St. Edward, Cora Gideon (who scored 23 points along with three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
