After a string of three wins, the Franklin Sabers's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 54-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Grafton. Franklin has struggled against Grafton recently, as their contest on Thursday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Franklin lost, one person who can't be blamed is Rachael Jepsen. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points along with six rebounds and five steals. That's the first time this season that Jepsen scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Capstran, who scored 14 points.
Franklin's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Grafton, they pushed their record up to 5-3 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Franklin will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Catholic Memorial at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Catholic Memorial presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Franklin in Wisconsin (Catholic Memorial is ranked 13th, while Franklin is ranked 86th). Grafton will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Waukesha West at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
