Caney Creek hasn't had much luck against College Park recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Panthers will venture away from home to square off against the Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Caney Creek put up the most points they have all season on Friday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 36-8 win over Cleveland. The Panthers not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since October 4, 2024 (when they won 42-9).
Meanwhile, College Park put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down Willis 55-37. Given the Cavaliers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 18th, while the Wildkats are ranked 83rd) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
College Park's win came from a few key players Caney Creek will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Camden Hughes, who threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns while completing 74.2% of his passes, and also rushed for 40 yards and one score. 95 of Hughes' passing yards were hauled in by Kaylen Stephens.
College Park was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 294 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
One reason for the win was College Park's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Willis' QB won't forget Brandon Claybaugh anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Claybaugh also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with ten. Marco Beltran was another major factor on D, forcing one fumble, making nine total tackles (1.0 for loss), and defending four passes in addition to snagging an interception.
