Michael Anaya was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. He also scored two runs, which is notable because Estancia is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-7 otherwise. Matthew Montoya was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Estancia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Tucumcari and Santa Rosa, and Santa Rosa kept the tradition alive. The Rattlers came up short against the Lions on Tuesday, falling 14-4. The Rattlers have struggled against the Lions recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Tucumcari saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matt Gomez, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Estancia's win bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Tucumcari, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Estancia has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Tucumcari struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
