Derek McCoy was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. Virginia City is 2-1 when McCoy posts two or more runs, but 0-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Shiloh Coelho, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Wells beat Mineral County 8-3 on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Leopards in their matchups with the Serpents: they've now won six in a row.
Cesar Beruman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 4-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Charley Peterson, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Gage Uhlig, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Wells kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.
Wells' victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Virginia City, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Virginia City has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Wells struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Virginia City might still be hurting after the 16-1 defeat they got from Wells in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Muckers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
