The Clovis Christian Eagles were the 52-44 winner over the San Jon Coyotes when they last played one another back in April of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. Clovis Christian fell 32-24 to San Jon on Thursday. Clovis Christian's defeat continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Madisyn Kruckeberg, who scored six points along with six steals. Kruckeberg has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Hannah McKay was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 11 rebounds and four steals.
Leading San Jon to victory were Summer Jennings and Sarah Archuleta. Jennings scored seven points along with nine rebounds and four steals, while Archuleta scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Archuleta has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexa Bacerra, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Clovis Christian dropped their record down to 10-4 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 14.3 points per game. As for San Jon, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clovis Christian won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Amherst at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th. Amherst comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last five games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for San Jon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Grady at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
