5A District 7 recap October 22, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 5A District 7 this week, Anclote beat Gulf 43-9. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Wesley Chapel lost to River Ridge 42-2 last week, the largest margin of any game. Alex Greer caught 2 passes for 77 yards in the defeat.
Hudson's dynamic duo of Joey Caruso and Zach Russell proved to be unstoppable against Ridgewood, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Caruso threw for 166 yards and 2 touchdowns and Russell had 81 yards receiving. Justin Erwin helped Hudson's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 32 yards.
Glass Wilson was a passing and rushing force as the Rams lost to the Cobras. Wilson's key target this week was Thomas Kernan, who caught 2 passes for 52 yards.
6-foot-0 quarterback Brandon Vinkler of Anclote is the league leader in passing yards this season with 656. He has also thrown 5 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Clarence Farria. The Ridgewood star has 18 catches for 329 yards.
Wilson of the Ridgewood is just 26 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 181 carries Wilson has put up 974 yards this year.
The Royal Knights are in third place, while Hudson is in first place.
River Ridge made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,662 from 9,371. The improvement was the result of a 42-2 victory over Wesley Chapel last week.
