Basketball Recap: Buffalo Falls Despite Big Games from Alivia Luikart and Brooke Woods

Buffalo lost against Charleston Catholic back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The match between the Buffalo Bison and the Charleston Catholic Irish didn't end well, with the Buffalo Bison falling 54-39.

Buffalo's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Brooke Woods, who posted 13 points and eight boards, and Alivia Luikart, who earned six points along with six assists and three steals. Woods is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Even though they lost, Buffalo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

It was another big night for Mary Rushworth, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds for Charleston Catholic. The dominant performance gave Rushworth a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Ilyauna Evans, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.

Buffalo's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Charleston Catholic, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Buffalo has already played their next contest (against Tolsia), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Charleston Catholic has also has no score uploaded for their next match, this one against Poca.
