Bureau Valley extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 7-12. They fell 6-3 to the ROWVA/Williamsfield Cougars. If the Storm were looking for revenge after losing 4-1 to the Cougars when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Mallory Maubach-Williams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits.
On the hitting side, Kayden Haage was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
As for ROWVA/Williamsfield, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-12. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games.
On ROWVA/Williamsfield's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Hannah Gehring gave up just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 12 Ks. Gehring has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Sophie Pohlman was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Riley Smith, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
Looking ahead, Bureau Valley is taking a road trip to face off against Annawan-Wethersfield at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for ROWVA/Williamsfield, they will be playing at home against Orion at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
