Basketball Recap: Palmetto Ridge Takes a Loss

Palmetto Ridge fought the good fight in their overtime game against Pine Crest on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 60-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pine Crest Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 214th, while the Panthers are ranked 85th).

Despite the loss, Palmetto Ridge still got an impressive performance from Melody Charlton, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 13 rebounds. That's the most points Charlton has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Naika Philistin, who posted six points.

Even though they lost, Palmetto Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

It was another big night for Isabella Sangha, who dropped a double-double on 33 points and ten boards for Pine Crest. The matchup was Sangha's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Franky Garfi was another key player, putting up eight points along with 14 rebounds and seven assists.

Palmetto Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Pine Crest, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-4.

Palmetto Ridge will head out on the road to take on Canterbury at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pine Crest, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-24 victory against Spanish River on the 27th.
