If the Escalante Moquis were riding high off their 67-40 takedown of the Freedom Prep Academy Eagles on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Escalante was just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 53-52 to Utah Military Academy - Camp Williams. Escalante found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post seven fewer assists than your opponent.
Several Moquis players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kendal Gardner, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Korben Young, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Utah Military Academy - Camp Williams to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaxon Moody, who scored 21 points along with five assists and three steals. Moody is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Andre Loya, who scored 14 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Escalante's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Utah Military Academy - Camp Williams, the win got them back to even at 8-8.
Escalante will look to defend their home court on Friday against Whitehorse at 5:30 p.m. Escalante is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.4 points per game this season. As for Utah Military Academy - Camp Williams, they will head out on the road to square off against Telos at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Telos has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
