Marlin is 6-1 against Hubbard since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Marlin Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Hubbard Jaguars at 6:30 p.m. Marlin will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
In what's become a running theme this season, Marlin gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They blew past Riesel, posting a 73-20 win on the road. Given Marlin's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 510th, while Riesel is ranked 1348th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marlin's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aarik Smith-shelley led the charge by scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Smith-shelley has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jerry Willis, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Hubbard suffered their biggest loss since December 14, 2023 on Friday. They were the victim of a rough 64-40 defeat at the hands of Dawson. Hubbard has not had much luck with Dawson recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Marlin pushed their record up to 10-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.8 points per game. As for Hubbard, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-11.
Everything came up roses for Marlin against Hubbard in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 67-40 win. Will Marlin repeat their success, or does Hubbard have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
