Las Animas is 1-6 against Burlington since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Trojans will be playing at home against the Cougars at 3:00 p.m. The last three games Las Animas has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Las Animas took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Limon, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Trojans narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Badgers 2-1.
Logan Servaes made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Servaes was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Servaes wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jesus Lopez, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Burlington got the win against Holyoke on Saturday by a conclusive 12-1. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Dragons: they've now won four in a row.
Like Las Animas, Burlington also got a great game from a two-way player: Kevin Salgado. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Salgado also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Burlington is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-11 otherwise. Salgado was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Burlington got a big performance out of Daxton Skarphol, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Scout Humrich, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Burlington's win bumped their record up to 6-12. As for Las Animas, their victory bumped their record up to 15-4.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Las Animas has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. However, it's not like Burlington struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Las Animas beat Burlington 4-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
