The Winslow Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 48-41 to Holbrook. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Winslow of the 60-48 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
Despite the loss, Winslow had strong showings from Jauslyn Nells, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and four steals, and Taylin Puhuhefvaya, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Puhuhefvaya has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Meteighka James, who scored eight points.
Holbrook got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Noheah Aberle out in front who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Aberle is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Maya Francisco was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Winslow's loss dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Holbrook, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winslow will face off against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Pusch Ridge Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday. As for Holbrook, they will head out on the road to face off against Snowflake at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Snowflake presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Holbrook in Arizona (Snowflake is ranked 24th, while Holbrook is ranked 117th).
