East Butler gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They claimed a resounding 74-28 victory over the Nebraska Lutheran Knights. The Tigers pushed the score to 74-6 by the end of the third, a deficit the Knights cut but never quite recovered from.
East Butler's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grant Kozisek, who rushed for 134 yards and three scores on only seven carries, and also threw for 47 yards and one TD. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Kozisek a new career-high. Another rusher making a difference was Rocco Hageman, who gained 111 total yards and four touchdowns.
East Butler didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Elliot Bouc and Devon Prochaska. Bouc got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Despite the loss, Nebraska Lutheran had strong showings from Luke Otte, who picked up 122 receiving yards and one touchdown, and Weston Koontz, who picked up 55 receiving yards and a pair of scores. An impressive showing, but Koontz really ramped things up playing D: he forced one fumble and made five total tackles in addition to snagging an interception.
Coming up, East Butler will head out on the road to challenge Guardian Angels Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Nebraska Lutheran, they will host Fullerton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
