The Jay County Patriots will face off against the Delta Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Jay County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11 runs per game this season.
Jay County lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Huntington North, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's game. The Patriots put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 14-5 win on Thursday. Considering the Patriots have won 15 matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Zoe Mclaughlin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hallie Schwieterman, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Brenna Ruble, who went 2-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Jay County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Delta was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 13-0 to New Palestine.
Jay County is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. As for Delta, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-13.
Delta's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Jay County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Delta, though, as they've been averaging only 3.3 strikeouts. Will Jay County keep running through batters, or will the Eagles buck the trend?
Everything went Jay County's way against Delta in their previous matchup back in April, as Jay County made off with a 12-1 victory. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
