The Walnut Ridge Scots's four-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Saturday. They put the hurt on Stivers School for the Arts with a sharp 84-62 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Walnut Ridge got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Marquis Lucas out in front who scored 24 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was LJ Foster, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
When it comes to explaining why Stivers School for the Arts lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kevon Bozeman. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. The contest was Bozeman's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Amaury Hawes was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Stivers School for the Arts were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Walnut Ridge's victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-1. As for Stivers School for the Arts, they bumped their record down to 1-3 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Walnut Ridge will square off against Africentric Early College at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Stivers School for the Arts' road trip will continue as they head out to face Belmont at 7:30 p.m. on December 12th. Belmont has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 237 points over their last four games.
