The Minor Tigers are taking a road trip to face off against the Jackson-Olin Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Minor has given up an average of 31.9 points per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Minor is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight games on Friday. They had to suffer through a 70-20 loss at the hands of Parker. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 115th, while the Thundering Herd are ranked 11th).
Despite the loss, Minor got top-tier performance from Dominic White, who rushed for 91 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries, and also picked up 41 receiving yards and one score. White really tore up the turf during one magnificent 77-yard run.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Jackson-Olin and Woodlawn had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Mustangs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Colonels on Thursday, sneaking past 20-18. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Mustangs as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
The critical scores for Jackson-Olin came from Joel Ray and Makhi Jones.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Jackson-Olin proved: they limited Woodlawn to a paltry 3.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Wylam Wright for the heroic effort on defense: he. Jackson-Olin didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 8.3.
Jackson-Olin didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Dekarrius Richardson. He also made four total tackles, which is notable because Jackson-Olin is 2-1 when he posts at least three total tackles, but 1-3 otherwise. The Mustangs received some extra help from Ray, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Jackson-Olin's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Minor, they suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 4-3.
Everything came up roses for Minor against Jackson-Olin when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 49-22 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
